Irish indie rock group The Academic will release new album ‘Sitting Pretty’ on February 10th.

The group are a hard-won success story, with relentless touring and sharp-edged songwriting taking them to stardom in their native Ireland. 2018 debut album ‘Tales From The Backseat’ broke out internationally, and The Academic closed this first chapter with a sold out night at London’s Roundhouse – their biggest headline show yet in the UK.

New album ‘Sitting Pretty’ was built in London, recorded alongside producer Nick Hodgson at Snap Studios in London. Building outwards, the record is a real coming-of-age narrative, switching between youthful confidence and anxiety.

“It’s about the entrance into true adulthood and how that can alienate you from yourself, making you feel like you’re playing a supporting role in your own life,” the band explain. “In one moment feeling 100% certain about everything, only to become overwhelmed with feelings of aimlessness and lack of direction in the next.”

‘Pushing Up Daises’ is the first single from the record, a punchy, incisive return. “’Pushing Up Daisies’ is our ode to insecurity and ego in equal measure,” the band say. “It tackles the hectic nature of our current circumstances. The ecstatic highs and the unbearable lows of life in you twenties.”

Tune in now.
