Primal Scream, Dexys, and more will unite on a new song in aid of the RMT Union.
The issue of unionisation has reached boiling point, with workers flocking back to trade unions – and forming new organisations – in their droves. Here in the UK, the RMT has become amongst the most visible, with leader Mick Lynch delivering memorable vox-pops on British television.
Now a host of musicians will unite to release a new song called ‘Enough Is Enough’, designed to raise funds for the RMT. Primal Scream lead the way, with Bobby Gillespie and Andrew Innes contributing to the song, alongside Dexys’ frontman Kevin Rowland, Jesus and Mary Chain bassist Douglas Hart, and more.
Of course, there’s a deep Left Wing history with these artists – Kevin Rowland has always espoused Left Wing views, while Bobby Gillespie’s father was a Trade Union leader in Glasgow.
🚨 BREAKING NEWS 🚨
🧵@RMTunion are proud to announce a hugely exciting collaboration with Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie and Andrew Innes together with Dexys’ Kevin Rowland & Sean Read, plus Jesus and Mary Chain bassist Douglas Hart to produce a song and video in support of RMT— RMT (@RMTunion) October 5, 2022
News broke via the RMT, with the incoming single set to “highlight support for rail workers strike action and against Tory austerity.”
Kevin Rowland praised the RMT Union, saying they have “been leading the way on behalf of working people and now other unions are joining the fight against low pay and this government that is trying to screw working people into the ground.”
RMT leader Mick Lynch adds: “My union is thrilled that music legends such as Primal Scream and Dexys and others want to support workers in struggle. It shows the growing amount of support for social justice and the fact that trade unions are the only thing that stand in the way of endless austerity and poverty.”
‘Enough Is Enough’ will be released at the end of October.
