Kelela switches it up on new single ‘Happy Ending’.
The avant R&B aesthete signalled her return with ‘Washed Away’, a gorgeous, ethereal evocation. Her first dose of new music since 2017’s vastly influential full length ‘Take Me Apart’, it acted as a showcase for her incredible vocals.
‘Happy Ending’ moves with a different energy, returning Kelela to her club roots. Amping up the tempo, the song is about the sudden rush of connection that can come with a club crush – and thankfully, it’s reciprocated.
LSDXOXO steps on in production, with Bambii supplying additional studio work. Out now, ‘Happy Ending’ comes equipped with a stunning video – Alima Lee and Kelela unite to direct the clip, which boasts snapshots of Black rave culture in New York.
