Montreal left-field pop duo Born At Midnite have shared new single ‘Y o Y’.
The pair are signed to Arbutus Records, and came up through the Canadian city’s DIY communities. David Carriere is a member of Clash favourites TOPS, while vocals come from Alpen Glow singer Amery Sanford.
New EP ‘Alternity’ is out on November 18th, with slinky lead single ‘Y o Y’ online now. Reminiscent of synth-pop bangers from Ace Of Base, the subtle 80s elements are re-cast in a DIY context, with Born At Midnite adding something surreal and striking into the mixture.
The duo explain…
“On this track we returned back to our classic backdrop of the party – or journey to the party. We wrote this in the coldest darkest January of 2021. There was nothing open in Montreal, and with the city like that it made sense that we were reminiscing. We just wanted to make a track that made the people feel like they were born at midnite every time, y’know?“
