Truck Drivin Man‘ is one side of Afton Wolfe’s new 2-song e-cassingle (as he calls it) and it finds the baritoned singer deep in a particularly dark murder ballad, telling as it does of a murderous spree focused on truckstop prostitutes.  ‘Truck Drivin Man was written by Wolfe’s friend Mark Mann, who he met while living in Hattiesburg, a place where in reality such events are a not infrequent occurrence.

Afton Wolfe was born in McComb and raised in  Meridian, Hattiesburg, and Greenville, Mississippi – an area that can make a claim as the origin of three American music forms – country, blues and rock and roll – all of which Wolfe draws on for his own idiosyncratic music.  Afton Wolfe has a new full album out on February 3rd.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan’s music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That’s not much to ask, is it?
